Intro:
Alan & Rose’s wedding at Lartington Hall feels timeless. The Georgian house and the quiet Teesdale countryside gave them a romantic setting with lots of character, and they filled it with their own personality, from handmade touches to a dance floor that stayed packed until the last song. It’s a gentle, joyful day I loved photographing.

Words from the couple
“Fred made us feel completely at ease from our engagement shoot onwards. The photos capture the emotion of the day beautifully, and our families have already ordered albums.”
Words from the photographer
“Alan & Rose have such an easy, affectionate way with each other. My job was simply to stay close and catch it: a hand squeeze before the ceremony, Alan’s face as Rose came down the aisle, her dad’s quiet pride. Lartington’s rooms and gardens gave me so many lovely pockets of light to work with.”
Wedding story
Best moment or memory
Our first dance. We’d practised for weeks, then completely forgot the steps and just laughed through it.
Something different
Instead of a traditional cake, we had a tower of local cheeses and a dessert table of family recipes.
Venue: Lartington Hall, near Barnard Castle, County Durham
Wedding wear
Rose: An ivory satin A-line gown with pearl buttons”
Alan: A sea blue wool suit with a deep black bow tie”
Styling and personal touches
A palette of ivory, burgundy and deep green suited the hall’s period interiors. Taper candles, mismatched antique glassware and foliage runners on the tables gave it a relaxed, elegant feel.
Ceremony and readings
A short ceremony in outdoor with a reading from Rose’s sister and a surprise song from Alan’s friends.
